1998 Fiat Coupe 2.0 20V Turbo
We’re certainly no strangers to the iconic Fiat Coupe here in Norwich’s Little Italy, but even we allowed ourselves a sharp intake of breath when this stunning 1998 20V Turbo in Sprint Blue parked up next to our own 1998 20V Turbo. By bizarre coincidence both have just 69k miles on their clock, both are pretty much 100% unmodified and both are in truly fantastic condition. They make quite the pair, wouldn’t you say?
The “Sprinty” has been coming to italicar for a couple of years now for its MoT and a couple of very minor jobs. To be honest it is so lovingly pampered that it’s highly unlikely that it will ever require anything more serious! Owned and cherished from brand new by its enthusiastic owner, it came to us in the same week that its stablemate was featured in Classic Car Magazine. We won’t name-drop what his second car is (the stickers in the rear screen might give the curious a clue), but this Coupe was definitely charming enough for us. Almost completely unaltered from the day it left the dealership, it is undoubtedly one of the very best Coupes that we’re lucky enough to maintain.
For this visit, we renewed its MoT for another year. Unlike the horror stories of maintaining one of these cars, we actually only needed to replace a steering rack gaitor and strip down and clean up the rear brakes. That’s it. Not bad for a twelve-year-old modern performance classic, we think you’ll agree? With the fresh certificate in our hand, we also replaced the missing front undertray. To be honest, the underneath of this car is so exceptionally clean it almost seemed a shame to cover it up. But, as sticklers for originality ourselves, we appreciate the little details like this. The undertrays are getting like hen’s teeth to find nowadays, so it was refreshing to speak with an owner who is willing to go the extra mile to keep his car as complete as possible. Other than this, the car wanted for absolutely nothing and we are sure it will delight its owner for many, many more years to come. We look forward to welcoming it back next year!
